Greetings from the new Mintern in town - Amanda! I’ll be updating the blog as often as possible to document the happenings of all that is Mint. For now, I’ll tell you a little bit about myself:

- I’m in my final year of the Arts & Entertainment MGMT diploma program @ Cap U

- I love all sorts of music (of course, I hate all sorts of music as well, but I don’t keep my taste locked to one genre)

- I like cats (a lot)

- My doctor said I had to cleanse my liver so my diet basically consists of rice & seasonal fruit/veggies + a whackload of supplements…arrrgghhh

- On a lighter note, it’s my birthday on Friday! Wooooooooo

I’m here till the end of April and I’m really looking forward to the hustle and bustle of springtime @ Mint Records!

Since I’m on a liver cleanse, it’s hard for…

Frannies

Mint Records has been in the Hastings and Cambie neighbourhood for years and years, well, since 1993, if not earlier. And we’ve borne witness to the restaurant space in the basement of the Dominion Building seemingly continuously rotate with tenants, from Jackson’s Beef House to Route 66 to The Victory to The Mouse & Bean to its newest incarnation, Nuba.

Next door to the Dominion Building, on the ground floor, facing Cambie Street, upstairs from where an early version of Scratch Records lived — where, according to legend, Nardwuar worked way back when — is Frannie’s, a venerable old sandwich spot that has not changed, we think, since forever almost. Run by a friendly duo, Frannie’s opens at the seemingly ungodly time of 6:30 every weekday morning, and closes at 4:30 in the afternoon.

The regulars are all there on their menu — the various customary sandwich concoctions and baked…

Say Hello to our Virtual Pet

March 31st, 2009 by Randy

Bookmarked and checked in on several times a day is a web cam aimed at a lone sea otter named Milo at the Vancouver Aquarium. Most of the time he is sleeping on his back, kinda like my cat Ozzie does most of the time as well. But sometimes he gets up and (a) eats or (b) grooms himself, or (c) plays with a ball or a food tube thing, all while floating on his back, kicking his feet every now and again.

At one point Milo had company. Nyac, a survivor from the Exxon Valdez oil spill from 20 years ago used to float with Milo, but alas she died.

Hey dearest peeps a shout out from Cup of i am spoonbender, formerly of cub!

Happy to report that for the most part cbc radio 3 survived the extensive cbc budget cutbacks! they’ve been juggling around their web radio schedule quite a bit though, and so the re-broadcast of my guest host show won’t be happening this sunday after all. the good news is that they will be re-airing it not just once but a few times in the coming two weeks:

The official ‘premiere’ date is monday march 30th from 3-6am pst, and again from 6-9pm pst the same day. then again on saturday april 4th from 3-6pm, and on sunday april 5th from 9am-noon!

This time they’ll have my blog posted on their website (they forgot to do that last week) http://www.cbcradio3.com ! So then everyone will know what/why/who i am, and maybe feel the itch to leave comments/feedback…hint hint! haha!

if you do feel so inclined, you…
