The Mint Fridge

The Mint fridge first sat in UBC Radio CiTR 101.9 fM’s lounge — I had bought it for the station’s use, using my CiTR Business Manager honourarium — but eventually it made its way Mint’s first office, into room 606 on the west side of the Dominion Building at the corner of Hastings and Cambie in downtown Vancouver. The fridge was slowly covered in stickers on the top, both sides, and front — and it now sits in the Mint office inside the leg-hole of an equally ancient metal desk that, too, was originally at CiTR.
Early on its new life at Mint, the fridge lost its inner freezer door, which meant that every few months it would have to be defrosted because the freezer would basically entirely fill up with frosty ice — and its ability to keep things very cold has been replaced by an ability to keep things very cool. Hence its normal life as a bag-lunch holder and a beer storer….
Some stickers of note: Four for cub (all illustrated by cub guitarist and my sister, Robynn), several Mint ones made by different companies (including the wonderful Teresa Wong and Sony Music in Toronto — SonyDADC shut down its manufacturing operations very recently, actually, so we had to change manufacturers — that made us rolls and rolls of 1000s and 1000s of stickers at a ridiculously low price), two for Pluto, some for the Smugglers, Wandering Lucy, NoMeansNo, Sister Lovers, Groovie Ghoulies, Neko Case, SFU Radio’s CJSF, Stumpy Joe, Facepuller, Asexuals, The Hi-Fives, Operation Makeout, Anthrax, The Spitfires, Top Drawer Records, Pavement, Red Fisher, The Stand GT, and, way in the back, Hanford Nuclear Pizza Pie, which was Robynn’s CiTR radio show.

I love that old school CFRC sticker over the cub sticker!
