Here is a photo of Bill with David Wisdom in one of the CBC Studios in the big concrete bunker on Cambie Street, kitty corner from the Canada Post main branch, way back in what must have been the early 90s.

Back then, there was no store, no coffee or sandwich shop, no big television screen that showed Vancouver Canucks playoff games, no outdoor stage, no convenient shooting stage. There was a lot of concrete, David Tarrant’s garden peeking from the roof of an adjoining building, a waterfall-ish water feature, and steps. I don’t know if it survived the total makeover of the CBC site, but lining the wall as you entered the main entrance way back when, was a light art installation of raindrops falling, their individual waves causing ever-expanding hexagonal shapes of green against the black backdrop.

David hosted the legendary and amazing Nighlines, the more down-to-earth and home-y of the two CBC FM late night shows that we grew up listening to. David had this very settling, calm way of talking that made you think you really were in the same room as him, both sitting in overstuffed armchairs, while he played you a bunch of records, and occasionally invited callers to call in, or special guests to make appearances. In the way that others have in the past, perhaps, talked TO you, David, I thought, rather, talked WITH you.

Thank you, David, for being there in the beginning.

Happy to report that for the most part cbc radio 3 survived the extensive cbc budget cutbacks! they’ve been juggling around their web radio schedule quite a bit though, and so the re-broadcast of my guest host show won’t be happening this sunday after all. the good news is that they will be re-airing it not just once but a few times in the coming two weeks:

The official ‘premiere’ date is monday march 30th from 3-6am pst, and again from 6-9pm pst the same day. then again on saturday april 4th from 3-6pm, and on sunday april 5th from 9am-noon!

This time they’ll have my blog posted on their website (they forgot to do that last week) http://www.cbcradio3.com ! So then everyone will know what/why/who i am, and maybe feel the itch to leave comments/feedback…hint hint! haha!
