About the Record
Buzzing With Rumors is the result of a six-year span of collaboration between Chris Corsano and John Brennan. The two first recorded together in 2018, during Corsano’s trip to Vancouver for Brennan’s installation The Temporal Drum Set, which was presented at The Western Front, and also featured drummers Greg Saunier and Mili Hong.
During that visit, the duo recorded in various outdoor and indoor spaces around Vancouver. Six years later, they reunited to perform at Fake Jazz in January 2024 and spent another week recording in Brennan’s East Vancouver studio.
Side A collects improvisations from those sessions: Corsano on modified percussion and drum kit, Brennan on drum kit, guitar feedback, electronics, and synthesizers. Brennan later edited and assembled these sessions into the tracks on the record. The opening of “Dim” was recorded at Pacific Spirit United Church (2024), while “Science World” includes material from 2018. Both pieces feature cameos by sound artist Elisa Ferrari, a longtime collaborator.
Side B captures their live performance at Fake Jazz at The Toast Collective, which used to be a loft in Chinatown in Vancouver. The room was full, and they shared the bill with their friends Shearing Pinx. The energy of the whole evening felt right to include as part of this record.
Buzzing With Rumors was recorded, mixed, and edited by John Brennan, with cover art by Chris Corsano and mastering by John Dieterich.
