Calgary garage-rockers Miesha and The Spanks are back touring across Canada,
one year into the release of their full length album Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi.
Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi featured a slew of assertive head-turners that showcase the
duo’s ability to harness the creative forces of nature into pure DIY punk rock energy. The
debut single Dig Me Out was a riff-heavy radio rocker lamenting the impact of residential
schools, released a year ahead of the full album and hitting #1 on the Indigenous Music
Countdown. It was followed by I Can’t Wait - a summer bop urging not to let yourself get
in the way of your dreams, which also played the end credits to the final season of
Peacock comedy Rutherford Falls.
It’s My Year kicked off 2023 with a sing-a-long for weirdos everywhere to celebrate and
take up space, followed by the retro-pop and riot grrrl grit-fuelled Mom Jeans//Mom
Genes which navigates Miesha’s new mom reality with all the bells and whistles, while So
Mad comes face to face with the anger women compartmentalize as their bodily
autonomy disappears, they can’t walk safely alone at night and are still expected to...
smile more.
Their music video for the latest single Heart Is On Fire - a barnburner guaranteed to set
your denim tuxedo ablaze - is a postcard from 2023, featuring highlights from Miesha’s
travels as a 2023 Keychange Artist, touring across Canada, UK, and Germany, performing
festivals in US, Sweden, and Poland, and other shenanigans.
Focusing on home turf this year, Miesha and The Spanks’ May tour dates will take them
around the Prairies, Ontario, and Quebec in a series of weekenders. In Southern Ontario,
they are joined by Thunder Queens who will be releasing their new album Strike One via
Victory Pool, and in Alberta/Saskatchewan by Dump Babes with their latest album Known
One. To wrap it all up they are headlining Kingston’s Spring Reverb Festival!
From Miesha: We’re really proud of this record, and it’s been am unreal privilege to share it
and perform all over the world this last year. Sean and I have a long history of taking our
music coast to coast for months on end and really digging into our home music
communities — and it’s those communities that we’ve really missed, so we are real stoked
on our 2024 focus on turtle island weekender runs and festivals, starting with this first
batch in May.
